Frequently Asked Questions
How does this course work?
The course is delivered entirely online. You can access it at any time and learn at your own pace. The course is designed to lead you step-by-step through the subject but you can dip into it at any point if you want to address specific gaps in your knowledge. In this case, we recommend that you at least skim the areas you’re already familiar with.
Which devices can I use to access the course?
The course is web-based and can be accessed from any device with a web browser and connection to the internet. This includes PCs, Macs, iPads, and other tablet devices. You can even use a smartphone for some of the material, though we don’t recommend this as the primary way to take the course.
Do I have to be online to use the course?
No. You must be online some of the time, but most sections of the course can be saved to local storage on a PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. This can be useful if, for instance, you want to work through a lesson over lunch at a cafe, or when you’re commuting. Some parts of the course, such as video segments and quizzes to test your understanding, will require that you be online.
Who developed this course?
The course developer is Martin Taylor. Martin has more than 20 years’ experience in publishing, technology and digital media in North America and the Asia Pacific region. He has a unique mix of publishing experience, spanning books, magazines, newspapers and online media in a 20-year career that has specialised in technology publishing.
Martin has trained publishers in more than a dozen countries in digital media. His CEO experience spans both large, multi-million dollar enterprises and small start-ups and he’s probably one of the few publishing industry CEOs who can code websites and ebooks. All of this gives him a unique understanding of the challenges facing large and small publishers across a range of markets; and the breadth of knowledge, strategic understanding, and practical experience to help publishing professionals make the digital transition.
You can follow him on Twitter.
How much time will it take?

Are there any exams?
No, but there are short quizzes throughout the course to aid your understanding of the material you’ve learned.
Are there assignments to hand in?
